Karen has owned her 1986 blue Renault 4 GTL from new and it has spent it’s entire life down on Folkestone seafront.
She uses the car on a daily basis, and it has done a quarter of a million miles! It was bought as a replacement for another R4 that was replaced after 220,000 miles- Karen clearly loves her 4s.
This car had a rebuilt engine fitted a couple of years ago and is now awaiting a donor chassis, as a life by the sea has meant there are too many areas of rust to repair properly. While the car is off the road Karen will be using her F6 van as her daily vehicle.
- Removing the engine
- Dropping the chassis
- Body shell is free!
The engine has been winched out and the chassis separated from the body shell.
When I looked at the chassis I found rear swinging arm end had corroded and broken off from the inside of the anchor bearing.
- The donor
- Swapping the brakes
I am now preparing the donor chassis sourced from a French TL with a terminally-rotten body! The TL brakes will be replaced with Karen’s original GTL fittings.
